Resident Evil 4

Vis statistikker:
Why the 2005 is VASTLY superior with SOUL!
Weyell now, Bless Yer Hearts an all, but Let Me Explain Why Ya'll Foolin’ Yawrself If ya'll think this Remake holds a purple hurricane lamp ta the Original Resident Evil 4.

Pull up a chair, ’cause as a Simple Country Lawyer Ah’m fixin’ to make a case so plain even a zombie mule could follar it. The original Resident Evil 4? That there’s a masterpiece, a barnburner of tension, atmosphere, and pure survival horror. The remake? SOULLESS. Absolutely SOULLESS. And Ah’ll tell ya why.

Exhibit A: Cut Content

The folks makin’ the remake done gone and cut out all the grit and charm that gave the original its bite. Remember the merchant’s cryptic humor? The tense, downright scary encounters in the village? Gone. SOULLESS. Those little optional bosses, side encounters, and environmental storytelling moments that made you sweat bullets while whisperin’ “don’t turn thayt corner”? Poof. Cut. Vanished like Aunt Mabel’s pie at Sunday dinner. SOULLESS.

It’s like buyin’ a jug of moonshine and findin’ out they watered it down to table wine technically it’s still alcohol, but it ain’t got the same kick. SOULLESS.

Exhibit B: Dumbed-Down Gameplay

Now, the gameplay in the remake? Mercy, it’s soft. They’ve handed you too many tools, smoothed every bump in the road, and sanitized the challenge. SOULLESS. The original? Every bullet mattered. Every corner might hide a death sentence. Ya had to think, conserve, and feel the fear like a man stalked by wolves in his own yard. The remake turned all that into a guided stroll with a flashlight and a bigger health bar than a church picnic. SOULLESS.

Exhibit C: Tone and Atmosphere

The original RE4 dripped dread thicker than molasses. Every village, every castle, evereh shadowy hallway had personality dark, tense, and sometimes cruel. The remake, bless its heart, tries real hard, but it’s too polished, too cinematic, too safe. SOULLESS. It’s like takin’ a rattlesnake, paintin’ it pink, and expectin’ folks to jump in fright. Sure, it looks prettier, but it don’t bite the same. SOULLESS.

Closing Arguments

So let me lay it out plain and simple: the original Resident Evil 4 is vastly superior. It respected its players, challenged ’em, and never pulled punches. The remake? SOULLESS. It chopped out content, dumbed down tension, and wrapped everything in a tidy little bow like a gift you didn’t ask for. SOULLESS.

If you want true survival horror, true tension, and a game that makes you sweat, clutch your ammo, you play the original. Not the remake. Not the fancy, dumbed-down, cut-content SOULLESS version.

Case closed. Court is adjourned. And bless your heart if you still think the remake holds a Purple Lantern, weyell, it don't - it’s SOULLESS, and it ain’t even glowin’ in the same room. SOULLESS.

OBJECTION, Your Honor! And let me tell ya, as a Simple Country Lawyer, Ah take particular umbrage at this here disparagin’ of a perfectly respectable Southern drawl.

Sayin’ “performative cringe faux rural talk” is not only disrespectful, it’s downright insulting to anyone with ears in their head and humanity in their heart. This here accent ain’t “faux”—it’s a proud, slow-brewed cadence, like molasses drippin’ off a tin roof.

You’re dismissin’ it without even considerin’ the substance behind the delivery. That accent, bless its heart, carries the heavy load of critique, and courtly wisdom that y’all might otherwise miss if you’re too busy sneerin’ at the sound. It’s like judgin’ a fine bourbon by the bottle color without tastin’ a drop. Yes sir it is!

So, respectfully, I move that the record reflect: disparagin’ the accent don’t weaken the argument, it just makes the speaker look as foolish as a rooster tryin’ to do calculus. Court rules in favor of the drawl, your comment notwithstanding.

Sustained, and bless your heart for learnin’ somethin’ today.
The original and the remake are both great. I can appreciate you find the original vastly superior, but I think it's hyperbole to say it's soulless. It's built upon much of the same concepts, with superior, well performing graphics and the same excellent gameplay.
they removed so many traps from og that make like rescuing ashley is just a field trip

As a Simple Country Lawyer, Ah ain’t just agreein’ with this statement—I’m slammin’ the gavel so hard the echoes’ll scare the chickens clean off the fence. They DID remove so many traps from the OG that rescuin’ Ashley in the remake feels less like survival horror and more like a school field trip with a buddy system.

Back in the original, escortin’ Ashley was a white-knuckle affair. Tripwires, bear traps, surprise grabs, panic-inducin’ chaos—every step felt like walkin’ through a snake pit while babysittin’. You had to think, plan, and pray a little. Miss one cue and boom—lesson learned the hard way.

Now? Bless it. The traps are gone, the edges are sanded down, and the tension’s been tucked in for a nice afternoon nap. Ashley ain’t somethin’ you protect anymore—she’s a guided-tour participant with plot armor and a permission slip. The danger’s been diluted so much it barely leaves a stain.

So yes sir, you are absolutely correct. What used to be a nerve-rackin’, sweat-soakin’ ordeal is now a leisurely stroll through Ganado Country Club. And folks wonder why some of us keep sayin’ the remake feels… well… a little too polite.

I'm an old-head and come from the PS1 games, and I love the original RE4 for exactly how it broke away from the tried-and-true methodology of the first three mainline games and created something so new and inventive, its influence is still felt today.

I'm revisiting REm4ke now after giving up on it when it came out. There was a point when it wasn't fun anymore and I put it down. I found my problem with it two fold: firstly, my own bias to the original, and secondly, my deep aversion to all the features that completely missed the point of the original choices. I don't know if the REm4ke is necessary to begin with, but the franchise definitely wants to create a new kind of connected chronology of the series that the older games really don't fit into. Capcom remaking all the older games to just get across the original stories, but changing the gameplay and character models to be more consistent and "Hollywood" b-movie action (bigger, louder, dumber), makes it more appealling generally to the mainstream. I understand these choices but I think it does harm to the series overall. Just how many times are we gonna have to revisit and remake these games as time goes on?

I recently finished REm4ke, and while I'm a lot more forgiving and softened my initial feelings, I still find the original game, with the fan HD retexture, to be the ideal experience. REm4ke feels a lot like a fan pastiche of the original but with misguided changes that completely level out what really stood out of the original: intention. The original game had incredible atmosphere and tone, and the gameplay, with all the limitations emphasised precision that REm4ke just doesn't offer. You can easily keep the starting weapons that the original game gives you, but it's not really the case in the new game. It's all about new, being agile, and keeping in constant motion. In place of pacing, it has chaos and that's not scary. It's frustrating more than anything else.

I find this new version of Leon very emblematic of my issues with the series as it continues as it is. It's swapped out intentional design, atmosphere, texture; camp fun due to mistranslation of East to West, for B-movie shlock for shlock sake. It feels insincere and try-hard. It is without charm, wit, and fun. In its place is gun sway and crafting mechanics.

I don't know, the feels very nice to me. Except aiming and overall action. Why in the world top class agent moves like granpa and shoots poorly while going out of breath every time??
