walking is tiring.
game reasonably easy.
still very early at the game after beating hornet and bush boss.

my mistake is i keep backtracking like a lot as soon as i unlocked a new skill just to hit a wall with "you also need [skill name] to pass through the level" vibe.

what i should have done is keep moving forward and only go back if there is nothing i can do at the front. which i didnt.

yes "walking only" is not really fun (even less with no challenge in-between with platforming and enemies combat) and HK really dont help by the fact there are not enough enemies per room in many areas to make the walking not feel just like walking with 1 enemy here and there.
tldr i agree with first paragraph. maybe there is not enough enemies to distract me from the walk.
on top of it i felt underwhelmed whenever new map discovered but i cant just draw it out myself on every checkpoint. even after i purchased the pen, i still need to buy the map entirely from the husband.
like i got the pen if i can use it to draw secret tunnels why cant i draw entire discovery myself?
At Silksong it is the same thing, you have the pen but you still need the map.

Consider that the " world map" is made of "multiple smaller maps" and you basically buy a sheet of paper with parts of the map already at it and you can add more to it with your own pen.
Map is needed because you would not have paper enough for everything by yourself, for that it make sense you still have to buy the map (and maybe it is expensive because it already have parts of the map at it giving you hints of where you can go and how).

How I play most metroidvanias is to progress enough to get a few abilities before backtracking to use them. So for this game, the initial spell+the dash you got+one or two more skills could be a good place to backtrack. I think it's the best compromise between the most efficient way, which is to wait until you have all the abilities then do one pass through it all, and the having the most upgrades way, backtracking after each ability like you did.

Personal recommendation already knowing the game, small location and item spoilers: Save initial backtracking until after you obtain the Mantis Claws and enter the City and get at least one of the upgrades there, that is an ideal time to recheck starting areas.
You need more skills. Better keep exploring after Hornet.

Too late im burned out from the walk.
It is clear you have neither the patience, appreciation, or curiosity that this metroidvania game requires for you to get lost in and enjoy its world, music, and mechanics.
Give up and play something else that is specifically worth your time.
There's not much of a point to backtracking for exploration early on in this game. Despite the "Metroidvania" tag, the number of permanent upgrades is disappointingly small, and most of the stuff you find around are deposits of 15 Geo and Charms that are for the most part borderline useless because of how they take up more notches than you'll have until the endgame (at which point those early Charms won't have any use). There are lots of health/soul fragments that are bought from the shop and even almost all the Charm notches are bought from another shop. Exploration would have been a lot more rewarding if you could find more stuff, but as it stands the game wants you to create expectations about finding cool items but that's never fulfilled. Even the movement upgrades are very basic.

Metroid is different from hollow knight from an aesthetic and musical standpoint. It is a game that you enjoy better for more reasons than this game. If you can't appreciate hk at face value, play something else.

I am 'kicking you out' because I've seen many cases where people like you do not enjoy this game because of irritating mechanics, and I wish to give you your free time back as soon as possible. It is okay and even fairly healthy to admit you do not like something and move on. I had to do this with Ori, Silksong, and other games that I truly thought I'd love but didn't.
Speaking of Hollow Knight: Silksong, perhaps that game is more to your tastes. It is so much more linear than Hollow Knight. Backtracking in general is a little better, and there are more QoL options are available earlier on than in Hollow Knight. You also do not have to complete hk to play ss.

tldr whatever makes you justify your attitude.

main post already written its my mistake followed by correction to my own gameplay, no need passive aggressive as if i blamed the game when i didnt.

nobody here took it as critic like you did bcs they didnt stress things out.

we get it you wanna fake some beef to make whole thread about yourself but i already left.

there is no attitude, only experience

then why did you post?

so, then why did you post?

It is not about myself. you made it be about myself with your commentary.
I hear you OP. It took me a handful of attempts with this game before I was able to make it past the early stages and really start vibing with it. I've always loved it's mood, atmosphere and aesthetics, but the sheer size of the map combined with the relatively small number of upgrades that the player is drip-fed throughout made it difficult for me to stick with it. It definitely gets much more manageable as your movement options increase, but there's still a lot of walking; the game is just huge like that. It's also very easy to forget what one has or hasn't done yet, especially after taking a break. But ultimately it's still a really good game, and hopefully you're able to revisit it in the future and get some better mileage out of it.
