UFO chase: gaining Mach's by pressing a button?

So I'm not sure if this has been in Mania (non-Plus), and whether it's intentional. I use an Xbox 360 controller.

For some reason, in UFO stages, pressing 'Y' gives me a free Mach level.

I started Encore Mode today - so far a neat challenge. Got across my first Warp Ring of the playthrough, and failed the UFO stage. I went in a second time, not entirely remembering if there's a drift option in the stages to take sharper turns. Pressed 'Y' by accident...and somehow got a free Mach level.

Has anyone else experienced this? If yes, is this an intentional feature or a forgotten developers feature? I've never had this before.

But yea, best bet is that it's a debug feature that was left on by accident. It wouldn't make sense for it to be a new feature of special stages since it completely trivialises them and can be spammed for a massive points bonus after the special stage.

I'm still kinda confused why they haven't fixed it though, especially since there was a hotfix patch just the other day.

For everyone else wondering, it's Y on xbox 360/one controllers, triangle on PS3/4 controllers and W on keyboard.

I confirm this works on Steam even with the latest v1.06.0503. However, it doesn't seem to work on Nintendo Switch with either the Sonic Mania Plus release v1.04 or the latest v1.04.
