TF2 Highlander Tourney

Hey everyone,

Hope your summers have been great. As we come closer to the start of
the fall semester, I have something that might be of interest to many
people.

People have been telling me that we should definitely do some kind of
Team Fortress 2 tournament, because it's one of our more popular games
and we can get many people involved. But my response was mainly, "I'm
not sure how smoothly it will go" or, "How many teams/people will
actually join, I don't want a tournament with just 2 teams of 6" or
something along those lines. Well here is a way to find out how many
people will actually be interested in a TF2 tournament.

http://etf2l.org/2010/08/09/the-highlander-community-challenge/

ETF2L is holding a highlander tournament, open to all casual tf2
players. I've seen many people play tf2 at our LANs, and I want to
know how many of you guys would be interested in forming a highlander
team or 2 to compete in this tournament. Details are on the website.
Team signups close Thursday August 26 so respond quickly so I know how
many people are interested and how many teams we can make. Send emails
to c2gs@stevens.edu.

TL;DR: Free online TF2 Highlander Tournament. Anyone interested? Email
c2gs@stevens.edu

-Kevin Su
AKA th3shinigami

24/7 TF2 Server!

THE SERVER HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD.

C2GS has finally got its official server up and running, and it's on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Anyone on campus can join at any time by simply connecting to 155.246.177.92. The server has all the mods and sounds that the previous one had, so don't be afraid to nominate and rtv for a map change whenever you get bored of the current one.

If you have any suggestions on improving the server (or just want me to set a player on fire for no reason) please feel free to post a comment here or Steam message me.

--[C2GS] Jaxl

Server Sounds

Hello everyone,

As most of you probably know, the current C2GS server (aka my desktop) has had sound clips enabled for certain chat commands for some time now. So as to not let them get too out of hand at times (especially after my idiotic idea to include 'arny'), the plugin has always had a disable feature that I have invoked on occasion.

Now, I'm not writing because of any sort of incident that has happened with them; rather, I'd simply like to hear what you guys think of the whole thing, since I kind of implemented it on short notice without really giving anyone a heads up. Do you guys enjoy having them? Do you hate them and want to punch your screen every time you hear one? Do you want fewer sounds? Or (god forbid) more?

As of right now I have put in a new feature that gives a specific person a little time-out from playing sounds if they play too many at once (hopefully I won't hear so many arnies that I have to go and punch a baby). But I figure I owe it to all of you to get your opinions on this; as far as being a TF2 server goes, my computer belongs as much to C2GS as it does to me.

--[C2GS] Jaxl

9/19/09 LAN

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great LAN! It's been a while since we've had so many players.

So, some of you might be wondering why the server had to be restarted a few times. Since more than 32 people wanted to play, we were trying to find a way to change the maximum amount of players. Last year, we were able to push the limit up to around 40. However, we quickly realized through trial and error that somewhere along the line from the 40 player game last year up till now that Valve most likely hard coded in a 32 player limit that we simply couldn't get around. Running the server from the TF2 GUI didn't do it, and we tried installing an old mod on the server but that didn't work either. So, the only conclusion we can draw is that it simply isn't possible to accomodate more than 32 players, unfortunately.

However, there are certainly measures we can take to remedy this. If someone else is willing to run their computer as a server, we can have two running at the same time; for example, one can run arena maps while the other runs objective maps.

Also, there is one other thing I would like to point out, and I cannot stress this enough:

No offensive sprays are allowed.

There are many people who would like to have a good time without having to be subjected to them. Anyone using an offensive spray at a subsequent LAN will be warned, then banned if they do so again. End of story.

So, if anyone has any suggestions on perhaps running another server or another way we could work around the max player limit issue, please feel free to comment here or send it to the C2GS email. And if you happen to stumble on a plugin that lets us change the max player cap, PLEASE comment here or send it via email.

Also, I'm working on adding a few goodies to sourcemod. Stay tuned...

--[C2GS] Jaxl

TF2 Server Issues

So, as some of you may have noticed at the last LAN, our connection the server is running on can't quite handle as many people as we'd like, as evidenced by the frequent lag spikes. Obviously, we weren't going to know this until we tried playing with a lot of people, so we weren't aware of this beforehand.

There are a few solutions to this problem:

1. We can work on getting the server on campus running smoothly at the expense of not letting people from outside connect.

2. I can try setting up a dedicated machine at my house using FIOS, which should be able to handle the traffic. Operative word being "should".

3. We can rent a TF2 server, but that costs money.

4. Ford the river.

So, that's the situation right now. Therefore, for now we'll have to make due with someone hosting locally at the LANs (or using the campus server, risking lag spikes) until we implement a solution. For now, the server listed on the page won't be running. Sorry about the inconvenience, but hopefully we'll get a fix in place soon.

New TF2 server for C2GS!

Thanks to the kindness and genorisity of yours truly, C2GS now has an off-campus server that anyone can connect to, regardless of location. Please feel free to contact me with map suggestions. Hopefully we will also be able to schedule special games outside of Thursday and Saturday LANs.

Server info is posted on the main group page. It's running Sourcemod, so rtv and nominate work. The server also has !radio enabled for your listening pleasure. The password for the server will be sent out using the C2GS mailing list. If you're not on the list, please pm me through Steam chat and I'll give you the password.

-- [C2GS] Jaxl
