Still curating, yay!

It's been a while, but I'm happy to write a curator post from time to time, to keep recommending great indie games!

Also, if you are using SteamGifts, there will be few giveaways for you soon.

Curator page update

It's been almost two years since I stopped reviewing games on Steam. Maybe it's a pity, but I still don't regret it, yet after I checked the current curator system on Steam, I'm surprised how Valve changed it to a better state.

I've decided to renew the curator page, with my opinions on games I've played recently. Since I'm currently sick and without energy for everything truly demanding, I had that idea to go through games I played in last years and share my opinion on games I remember (what a shame, but I found there were many games I just barely remembered I played, though mostly for indie games with rather poor qualities - didn't made curation comments for them).

Overall it took more time than I planned (and now I even feel well ), but now the curator page starts with already over 800 curator comments on Steam games/DLCs I played.

Following from now, I'll keep using it to share my short opinion about games I've played. I like it this way for the character limit and the possibility to create "informational" curation, which actually mostly serves as "mixed feelings" in my case.

If you wanna know my opinion on games I play, I'll appreciate your follow on my curator page: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/12185558-Samurai-Vader%27s-Point-of-View/

Need a break

Hi!

You might have noticed that I haven't posted a review for a few weeks. It's because I'm currently somehow losing the motivation to write proper Steam reviews with detailed reasoning.

I am puzzled, as Steam reviews limit me to play (and review) only games on Steam. I'm considering other options for both Steam and non-Steam game reviews but I don't want to make my personal gaming blog (don't want to care about hosting, domain, proper CMS and advertising). Also, I often feel like that I don't want to explore all aspects of played games, instead of just casually playing it and enjoying features that I personally find entertaining.

That leads me to question myself if I want to continue reviewing. My current answer is: Not now, and if I continue writing Steam reviews, it would probably be just really short ones (1-2 paragraphs) that I don't find worthy recommending in a personal Steam group, I don't want to spam notifications to you for a short reads. Although the positive ones may be in curations. (Does anybody actually care about Steam Curations? )

I want to say that even though I'm taking a break, I appreciate everybody who read through my reviews, gave me feedback and rated it. You always made me feel that the time spend writing reviews was worth it.

See ya!

---

Final note: Even though this group is getting a break, Reviewers' Guild is gonna continue as I am glad to see good Steam reviewers connecting and discussing. (In case you are a Steam reviewer and aren't in the group yet, just tell me and I'll send you an invite if you don't have just M E M E S instead of reviews.)

One more final note: If you want to follow more personal reviewer groups, I can recommend you following Lady Storyteller, TeamTom's Reviews, Antwog's Analysis, and Murphy's Lawyer Curation.

New review: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition

Gabriel is a member of Brotherhood of Light who recently went through sad events - his wife was murdered. As there must be some big evil behind it, he journeys through the world to kill three lords of shadow, to kill everything evil with his holy battle cross, and to steal powers of each lord. That's all you need to know about the story, which is poor. If you read through all notes and background texts in the game, you'll be looking forward to see the depth of the unusual fantasy world on Earth (many years after our civilization has fallen), but in the real action the story just lets you cringe, as things only happen to move the plot forward without proper explanation or sense. In the end, it's all about killing evil things and keeping the decreasing faith to God.

It's a typical hack'n'slash console game (released on 2010 for consoles) with purely linear gameplay - the whole game is split into chapters and levels. While there are some parts where you can choose a path, there aren't many of those, so you'll mostly be just walking forward through corridors or climbing and jumping on the ledges (with only one right path) like in Tomb Raider series.

-> Continue reading

http://store.steampowered.com/app/234080

New review: Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas

Recently I've seen a video about The Legend of Zelda on YouTube and it reminded me that I had Oceanhorn in my backlog. I've finished it but I have to say that I was puzzled if the review ends up being negative or positive. In the end, the review is positive, but it's not for everybody and it requires the player to do some compromises in expectation to enjoy it. Read more in my newest review!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/339200
-> My positive review of Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas

New review: hocus

I should be doing more projects to university (as semester's getting closer to the end, deadlines make me scared), so I don't have enough time to play games but still, here comes a review of a nice small indie game.
-> My positive review of hocus

http://store.steampowered.com/app/418040

New review: Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer is a roguelite game based on the "bump to kill" mechanic. Games based on it (e.g. Desktop Dungeons) are usually turn-based, focusing on the strategy and effective enemy killing. But necrodancing is different, everything is done in microturns - All actions (both yours and enemies's) have to be correlating with the soundtrack's rhythm. Each beat is a single action for every character.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/247080
