Slackware 15.0 Released!

"Hey folks! It's been a long time, but as usual we had to get everything just exactly perfect, and you just can't rush that. We are very happy to announce the availability of the new Slackware 15.0 stable release. There have been way too many changes to even begin to cover them here, but for our dedicated user base suffice to say that you'll find things modern but also familiar. We've gone with the 5.15.19 Linux kernel (part of the 5.15.x kernel series that will be getting long-term support from the kernel developers). You'll also enjoy a refreshed desktop experience including the KDE Plasma 25th Anniversary Edition with support for Wayland sessions."
--Official announcement (2022-02-03)

Additional Release details are at the links below.

http://www.slackware.com/
http://www.slackware.com/announce/15.0.php
http://www.slackware.com/releasenotes/15.0.php

Also, thanks to our very own Alien Bob, we have a nifty Slackware Live Edition for those who want to test drive the oldest and best Linux distribution.

Netherlands: https://download.liveslak.org/
United Kingdom: http://slackware.uk/liveslak/
USA: http://us.liveslak.org/

Congratulations and a heartfelt thanks to the Slackware Team and all the contributors and testers!

Slackware 14.1 has been released

Yes, it is that time again! After well over a year of planning,
development, and testing, the Slackware Linux Project is proud to
announce the latest stable release of the longest running distribution
of the Linux operating system, Slackware version 14.1!

We are sure you'll enjoy the many improvements. We've done our best
to bring the latest technology to Slackware while still maintaining the
stability and security that you have come to expect. Slackware is well
known for its simplicity and the fact that we try to bring software to
you in the condition that the authors intended.

http://www.slackware.com/announce/14.1.php

You can get a Steamclient 1.0.0.39 package for Slackware 14 and -current here:
http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/people/alien/slackbuilds/steamclient/

This update contains small changes according to the release notes: "Updated bootstrap files with proxy envvar parsing fixes". I also packaged the udev rule file for the steam controller (when will that go on sale?) just to be complete, I think it is rather useless on Slackware but whatever.

NOTE: if you are running 64-bit Slackware, you are requried to install my multilib packages:

http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/people/alien/multilib/ (packages)

http://docs.slackware.com/slackware:multilib (documentation)

Eric

New steamclient package for Slackware

I posted version 1.0.0.25 of the steamclient package for Slackware to http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/people/alien/slackbuilds/steamclient/pkg/14.0/

Finally, Valve is distributing this as a regular tarball now instead of a debian package.
The systray icon shows up properly now.
It looks like a 64-bit steamclient is coming soon, but the changelog tells me that will depend on the 32-bit steamclient... so what their intentions are, I have no idea.

Cheers, Eric.
