Well…it’s finally happened!

DARK SCROLLS IS OUT NOW! 🪓

After countless hours in the dungeon, creating increasingly questionable heroes and arguing over whether a saxophone-playing rat should be banned from the shop (the answer is always yes), Dark Scrolls is finally out in the world on PC & Nintendo Switch!

We wanted to create something that captures that feeling of old-school arcade games, whilst also throwing in all the things we love: frantic action, weirdo characters, co-op chaos and the kind of runs where everything falls apart…until suddenly you’re the most powerful thing on the screen.

Whether you’re hurling axes as Grizz, mastering mayhem with Emerys or abducting half the dungeon as Saturn, every hero will bring their own unique playstyle, abilities and ridiculous personality to the adventure. 🛸 There’s 9 to choose from, so i’m sure you’ll find one you like.

No two runs will ever be the same, as you battle through procedurally generated dungeons built from handcrafted rooms. Discover branching paths, relentless bosses and spend your hard earned coins at Bruce & Goose’s shoppe to unlock powerful perks and devastating attacks!

Tackle the dungeon solo or bring a friend along in local or online co-op! (If you play with someone, at least you’ll have someone other than yourself to blame).

You probably thought things couldn’t get any stranger than a saxophone playing rat…well, guess what? We actually saved the weirdest for last!

Ever met an alien with a machine gun? Well now you have! MEET SATURN, a little flying alien with a UFO’s worth of confidence and absolutely zero interest in walking.

Saturn’s controls are somewhat conventional:

🔫 Press shoot to fire his hit scan machine gun straight ahead.

⬇️ Press jump to fire straight down instead.

Sounds pretty simple, until you realise you have to watch for his ammo bar floating above his head. No spraying bullets without consequences in this game!

Don’t worry, the weird part is coming…

Saturn can use 🛸 ABDUCT!

Summon a tractor beam beneath, sucking up just about anything he can get away with, enemies, coins, props…if it fits the beam, it’s fair game.

Everything you abduct earns EXP, which means you can level up mid-run, boosting your ammo capacity, fire rate, and firepower! A true extra-terrestrial menace.

If your strategy plan is ‘take everything valuable and shoot the rest’ then Saturn is the hero for you!

And there you have it, that’s all the heroes in Dark Scrolls! Which one are you taking into the dungeon first?

Who needs swords when you have a…well-balanced diet?

Introducing CONFIT, the dungeon’s finest chef and the only hero capable of solving problems with an alarming amount of airborne meat.

If lobbing food at enemies sounds enticing to you, then you’ll definitely love Confit. 🍖

Throw meat, snacks and whatever else was cooking in the kitchen that day. Better yet, his projectiles bounce off enemies and pass straight through walls, because physics doesn’t exist here.

Dinner and a show ✨

Double jump and Confit tosses four cuts of meat in a diamond pattern around himself, becoming invulnerable until he lands. Perfect for escaping danger and seasoning the battlefield.

But...what is the point of a chef without cooking? 🍲

Confit slams down a giant pot and starts cooking at a ridiculous speed, launching a storm of flying food into the air. He might even whip up a healing heart for the team, if luck is on your side.

Enjoy projectiles, feeding your friends and turning every run into a health and safety violation? Then Confit might just be your dude.

Pro controller for Switch 2 is not supported at all

It doesn't even recognize the home button. Seems to be happening to everyone. It will only allow regular joycons. How could this even happen?

Hey, wanna read a review from someone who *did* press all the buttons, figure out the basics, and play for longer than 10 minutes? Here you go:

To preface, I'm straight up bad at arcade games and I hate auto-scrolling levels in Mario. I can't make it more than 30 seconds into Ghosts 'n Goblins. But this game isn't sadistic like that, it's a fun arcade action platformer where you get better by playing it, and occasionally unlock perks through persistent mechanics. It's packed with secrets, I've already found a few. It has local and online co-op, which I haven't tried, but am excited to.

This game has a bunch of alternate routes, secret unlocks, a perk system that goes *way* beyond the "choose 3" of the modern era, and a cool modular level design pool that lends itself well to mastery while still keeping things fresh between runs. The characters all play very differently (I recommend starting with the warrior or mage), and if the achievements list is any indication, there are a lot of them to unlock.

The one thing this game asks you to do, is play it to figure it out. Here's a tip: Attack enemies until you get five stars, then press the interact button (triangle on PS controller layout, Y on Xbox) to use your super and get your star level back to 0. Maybe you figured this out immediately, but I see at least two reviewers who do not know that there's a third button. Consider the implications of that mechanic as you browse your perks in the shop... Put the mage's healing fairy in slot 0, and thank me later...

EDIT: Hey, I played online multiplayer with a friend for like two hours and it was incredibly fun. We also discovered tons of secrets (including an entire hidden system that I won't spoil), unlocked a character, and got so good that we can basically get through the first two levels without getting hit. Sorry to the quitters who got filtered by the lack of a big "HOLD SQUARE BUTTON TO ATTACK" sign in the town square, but this game rules.

The core concept here is strong. The presentation is great. Looks awesome, music is nice. But it's so annoying to play.

It feels like everything is coated in oil. The basic jump feels too weak but the double jump is gimmicky and hard to use for platforming.

Attacks are limited to one direction but air control is so slippery that aiming at things off the ground is frustrating.

The star system is interesting but the perks being temporary makes them feel sort of worthless, especially considering they cost coins, when you need a bunch of coins to go to a different area right after the first stage.

The honk noise is infuriating. Very loud and distracting. Was funny the first time, not so much after that.

The auto-scroll doesn't really do the game any favors either. Combined with the slippery controls, it just adds to the frustration. Trying to get to a chest and break it before it goes offscreen, only to get a couple of coins, isn't very fun.

All that said, I still hate to give it a negative review because it looks like it should be awesome. I think some people will enjoy this. If the game is meant to be something like a Jump King, where frustration is meant to be a big part of the gameplay, then maybe it's succeeding in that way. I'm assuming it isn't though, and I really don't enjoy games like that anyway. I'm sure if I continued playing I would "get good", and feel a bit better about the controls, but I'm not really feeling compelled to get there. The gameplay is too simple but too frustrating to want to master. At least for me. I may hang on to the game and hope for the best, but I don't think it's for me at this time.

This is a fun one! I do think some of the characters that focus on staying in the air like Biscuit are extremely hard to control in a way that feels strange though? Love what this is going for overall. Hope to play more soon maybe if I can get some friends on it.

Can't buy the launch bundle

For some reason, only owning Gato Roboto I'm unable to buy the launch bundle, it says I already own Gato Roboto and it's blocking me from purchasing it entirely. Suppose I have 5 stars displayed under my HP bar. I buy "fire on weapon" from the merchant, select 5 stars, and... nothing changes?.. Am I missing something, or is the game broken?

Movement feels off? Plus other general tidbits from my short time with the game

Bought this today, only played a bit but it’s not as reactive as I feel it should be? For example, when shooting you can’t quickly turn round to shoot behind as well, the character seems to just move backwards, this has lead to me walking straight into the zombies that spawn and dying. Also, tried local multiplayer and really not a fan of the NSMB style collision but that might just be a me thing haha. Feels like it could do with a proper tutorial or at the very least an explanation of the systems an...
