Experimental traffic behavior relief for smoother ETS2 AI flow.

RealRoads AI Flow Assist is an experimental traffic-rule add-on for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

It is designed to help reduce some of the most frustrating base-game AI traffic behavior in areas where editable traffic rules can influence how vehicles react, stop, merge, recover, and move through difficult road situations.

This mod does not change traffic density. It is not a traffic-light timing mod. It is focused on traffic behavior relief.

What Is AI Flow Assist?

AI Flow Assist is for players who experience AI vehicles braking too hard, hesitating too long after stopping, slowing too much around ramps, or creating awkward slowdowns near merges, roundabouts, cloverleaf-style interchanges, and traffic bottlenecks.

It attempts to improve the way AI traffic recovers and keeps moving in situations where ETS2 traffic-rule tuning can help.

How This Is Different

RealRoads AI Flow Assist
  • Focuses on AI traffic-rule behavior.
  • Helps with braking, hesitation, ramps, merges, stops, and flow recovery.
  • Does not change traffic density.
  • Does not change traffic-light timing.

RealRoads SignalFlow Standard
  • Focuses on traffic light timing only.
  • Helps reduce some long red-light waits.
  • Does not change stop-rule or yield-area behavior.

RealRoads SignalFlow Plus
  • Includes the Standard traffic light timing changes.
  • Adds stop-rule and yield-area relief.
  • Focuses on smoother signal, stop-line, and intersection flow.

RealRoads AI Traffic Density Presets
  • Light, Medium, Heavy, and EchoFlow control traffic density and spawn behavior.
  • Use only one density preset at a time.

What It Attempts To Improve

  • Sudden AI brake-check style behavior.
  • Long AI hesitation after stopping.
  • Slow recovery after stop-and-go traffic.
  • Overly cautious ramp and merge behavior.
  • AI slowdown around some highway ramps and interchanges.
  • Some roundabout hesitation where traffic-rule tuning can help.
  • Stop-rule hesitation where traffic-rule tuning can help.
  • General AI traffic flow recovery.

What It Does Not Change

  • Traffic density.
  • Spawn rates.
  • Traffic-light timing.
  • Vehicle speed limits.
  • Economy.
  • Physics.
  • Weather.

Recommended RealRoads Setup

For the fuller RealRoads traffic experience, use:

  • RealRoads AI Flow Assist.
  • RealRoads SignalFlow Standard or SignalFlow Plus.
  • One RealRoads AI Traffic density preset: Light, Medium, Heavy, or EchoFlow.

Use SignalFlow Standard if you only want traffic-light timing relief.

Use SignalFlow Plus if you want traffic-light timing plus extra stop-rule and yield-area relief.

Use only one traffic density preset at a time. Do not enable Light, Medium, Heavy, and EchoFlow together.

Suggested Load Order

  • RealRoads AI Flow Assist.
  • RealRoads SignalFlow Plus or SignalFlow Standard.
  • RealRoads AI Traffic Light, Medium, Heavy, or EchoFlow.
  • RealRoads Governed AI Trucks.
  • Economy, physics, weather, sound, truck, trailer, graphics, and map mods as needed.

If you want AI Flow Assist to take priority over another mod that edits traffic rules, place AI Flow Assist above that mod unless the other mod’s instructions say otherwise.

Compatibility

  • Designed for Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.59.
  • Works alongside most truck, trailer, sound, graphics, economy, physics, weather, and map mods.
  • May conflict with other mods that edit def/world/traffic_rules.sii.

Important

AI Flow Assist is experimental. It does not rewrite the full base-game AI system, pathing, prefab lane logic, roundabout logic, or internal vehicle decision-making.

Some AI issues are controlled directly by ETS2 itself and may still happen in certain areas.

Feedback Is Important

Because this mod targets difficult AI behavior that can vary by map area, road prefab, ramp design, roundabout layout, traffic density, and mod load order, player feedback is very important.

If you still see AI brake-checking, ramp hesitation, roundabout hesitation, cloverleaf slowdown, or stop hesitation, please report the location, road type, nearby city, map mod if used, and your active traffic/load-order setup.
